Profile of the National Co-ordinator, Dr Amadou Garba
Dr
Amadou Garba is the National Co-ordinator of the Programme de Lutte contre
la Bilharziose et les Géohelminthes in Niger. He studied medicine at the
University of Niamey, then public health and epidemiology at the Regional
Public Health Institute at Cotonou and the University of Bordeaux 2.
Earlier in his career he was a researcher at CERMES in Niamey, a centre
which collaborates with the World Health Organisation on research into
schistosomiasis and its prevention and cure. In 1993 he trained in
ultrasound techniques, and he has carried out more than 15,000 ultrasound
scans to evaluate morbidity due to schistosomiasis in various regions of
Niger, Benin and Burkina Faso where the disease is endemic. As a researcher
he has participated in many clinical trials of combined vaccines against
meningitis and meningococcus, and as lead researcher he conducted the trial
of phase 2 of the anti-bilharzia vaccine Sh 28GST “Bilhvax” in Niger in
2000. He is the author of more than 20 scientific publications on morbidity
and bilharzia control. |
Profile of Dr Ali Djibo, Director General of Public Health at the
Ministry of Health in Niger
Dr
Ali Djibo is the Director General of Public Health at the Ministry of Health
in Niger, and Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine at the University of
Niamey. The Programme de Lutte contre la Bilharziose et les Géohelminthes is
the responsibility of his Department.
After medical studies at the University of Niamey he attended the
University of Brittany (France) where he graduated in immunopathology,
internal medicine, general parasitology and tropical medicine. He is the
author of more than 20 scientific publications on tropical diseases. |
