Profile of the national co-ordinator, Dr Seydou Touré

Image: Dr Seydou Touré, Coordinator of National Schistosomiasis Control Programme, Burkina Faso Dr Seydou Touré, MD, MPH has gained wide experience in the implementation of health programmes during his career as an officer of the Burkina Faso Ministry of Health. His many roles have included Coordinator of a research project on Diarrhoeal Diseases and Hygiene in collaboration with the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. Later on, as Coordinator of the National Control Programme on Diarrhoeal diseases and Acute Respiratory Infections, he worked closely with USAID and PSI. More recently, as Regional Director of Health, he has also been responsible for the implementation of a project on reproductive health for the UNPF. Since June 2002 he has been the national coordinator of the Schistosomiasis Control Programme. In collaboration with SCI and Imperial College, the objective of Dr Touré is to make Praziquantel and Albendazole available for all burkinabe children so that in the future picking flowers in the water will no longer be a risk.
